Open Air Design Frames of Nature

The event dedicated to Outdoor Design curated by COIMA IMAGE in collaboration with MoscaPartners.

Through design, we can imagine more sustainable futures: the fifth edition of Open Air Design: Frames of Nature aligns with this vision, reflecting the perspective of Alida Catella, CEO of COIMA Image.
Amid the meadows and circular forests of the Biblioteca degli Alberi, during the four-day event, we explored what it means to design “in the open air”: twelve site-specific installations, materials that interact with light and nature, and settings that transform outdoor spaces into narrative stages.
Each installation aimed to translate the cinematic theme into architectural and material reality, where frames become windows of connection between object and landscape.

Insightful contributions and direct testimonies from esteemed guests sparked moments of reflection and emotion, amplified by screenings curated by Francesca Molteni—director, producer, and founder of Muse Factory—presented together with Cinevan, the Milan-based collective that brings cinema into public squares, fostering cultural and social encounters.

The experience was further enriched by collaborations with three Milanese centers of excellence: the Politecnico di Milano, the Civic School of Music Claudio Abbado, and the Civic School of Cinema Luchino Visconti. These institutions contributed with projects, AI-focused workshops, and musical performances, allowing us to explore design as a multi-sensory language.

A kind of design that is not just about form, but also about dialogue, participation, and engagement with the surrounding context—a design that educates and connects.
